Døla Culture

The Dølapeople came from the valley villages around Dovre in the south of Norway, in search of a future, they found opportunities in inner Troms. The immigrants brought many generations of experience, embodied as local tradition.

Inland, they found deserted areas and a geography that resembled their home village. Here, the opportunity to carry on one's own brought cultural forms was great. It was very special that for a limited period of time, a population group almost collectively moved from one area to another. This naturally left a big mark on the valleys in inner Troms, where at that time there were no permanent residents, but only Sami who used the areas to move reindeer between coast and mountains.
